meet in the Friends nursery area behind the Robert Clark Centre, entrance from Gillies Street, every Tuesday afternoon between 1-4pm, no matter what the weather. Most propagation and potting up work is done outside but the members do take a break in the adjacent George Longley Building so named for the Garden's first Curator who devoted forty years of his life to the creation and development of the Gardens. Here is a growing collection of botanical and horticultural reference books which are consulted to ensure that specimens are correctly labelled.
A selection of plants is always available for purchase from the trolley outside the conservatory during the usual business hours. Plant sales are the main source of income to support new projects in the gardens.
If you would like to seek advice from the Growing Friends then please visit their nursery area between 1-4pm on Tuesdays or on the second Sunday of the month 1-4pm. Collectively their knowledge of the plant world is considerable. It is guaranteed that your botanical knowledge will increase by conversations with experienced gardeners. This group is friendly and relaxed so if you have a spare hour or two to indulge in your own personal therapy come along and enjoy the fellowship.
